This past summer, I had the opportunity to explore Acadia, Maine. A tip from a friend led me to take my inflatable boat to Seal Cove, located on the southwestern edge of Mount Desert Island. I paddled around Blue Hill Bay, which was quiet in comparison to the other side of the island which is usually busy with cruise ships docked near Bar Harbor.

During my solitary adventure, I saw sea lions, osprey, and harbor seals. I’d been told that sometimes you can see porpoises, but I didn’t see any on that outing. I suppose that’s a good enough excuse to go back for another tour of Acadia!

Having a day out by the river is a family memory that is undeniable. There is a peace and calm that the rapids of a river provide. The scenery is beautiful and peaceful. When you are spending it with your family, there is no better way to spend the day.

To add to the excitement is bringing inflatable pontoon boats to cruise down the river with. Known for their portability and light weightiness each makes it very easy to bring it anywhere that you go where there is water.  You can enjoy hours of river fun with your family. Those are the memories worth cherishing.

Down By The River

I remember when I was young we would go to the river almost every weekend in the summer. We would travel down the river bed for hours. It was so enjoyable and relaxing. When the weather cooperated it was an amazing experience.

One day it was an experience like no other. There was a group of us on a few sea eagle inflatable boats, just cruising down the river. The group that was in my boat crew, we lost the paddles. The river started getting a little rough, and we were going way to fast. We had lost total control of the situation. Due to the fact that we were kids we thought it was amazing. As an adult, I am just lucky that we were oblivious to it all.

Review of Inflatable Boat Manufacturers

With the convenience they offer, it’s no wonder that inflatable boats are so popular. One of the leading manufacturers of inflatable boats is Sea Eagle. For close to 40 years, Sea Eagle has created inflatable boats including yacht tenders, fishing boats, and sail boats.

Other manufacturers of inflatable boats include Sevylor and Mercury. Sevylor is known for making top notch inflatable recreational boats. Mercury, a name you’re probably familiar with, makes inflatable boats so sturdy that they are capable of taking the weight of four-stroke outboard motors.

Different Options

Boating has been around for centuries. Boats have served as short-distance transportation since early times. There are many different types of materials that are used for the construction of boats. The traditional material used for building boats is wood.

An inflatable boat has been around for centuries as well. Inflatable boats started being developed by European and North American companies. Inflatable boats are made out of synthetic or natural fabrics. They are a great alternative to the traditional wood construction.

Visiting Dinosaur National Monument

Last summer, I took my family on a week long vacation to Dinosaur National Monument. Dinosaur fossil beds were discovered at the site in 1909 by paleontologist Earl Douglass. Thousands of fossils were excavated and shipped back to a museum in Pennsylvania for study and display. In 1915 President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the dinosaur beds as a National Monument.

The scenery and history are just amazing. We spent a significant amount of time hiking and exploring the area, looking out for any fossils. We also took time to use our Sea Eagle inflatable boats to go kayaking down the Green River. It was incredibly peaceful and gave us plenty of fantastic photo opportunities.

Boat Fishing in Lakes

Lake fishing can be quite enjoyable from the shore or the docks, but to catch the big ones, you’ll need to move to the middle of the lake and fish off a boat. Unfortunately, the financial burden and simple logistics of storing and maintaining a vessel are enough to deter most people, myself included. With an inflatable boat, however, you can enjoy all of the luxuries of a boat with out the enormous price tag or the hassle. Once you’ve detected a school of fish, make sure to adjust the length of your line accordingly, but avoid the very bottom or you risk your line becoming tangled in weeds and growth. Make sure you’re using the correct bait as well; often checking with other fisherman or at the local bait shop will yield advice about the best lures and even the best fishing spots.

When leaving the lake, be sure to check the hull of your boat for plant life and even for aquatic life. Transferring foreign plant or aquatic life to other lakes can contaminate the lake and even kill off native species.

Affordable, Low-Maintenance Vessels

For the last five years my wife and kids have begged me incessantly to invest in a boat. Personally, I would love to have a seafaring vessel as well, but boats cost a fortune and require continuous maintenance and upkeep. I don’t have the time to properly care for a full-size craft, and I know the other members of the family aren’t going to take on the responsibility.

I had almost given up the dream of owning a boat entirely until I discovered that inflatable boats were an option. It may sound strange, and I was certainly skeptical at first, but the quality, convenience and affordability of these boats make them an amazing value for any family. This summer we’ve been able to fish, swim and take leisurely cruises around our local lake and I haven’t spent hours on maintenance or blown my kids’ college fund.

Gifts for the Outdoor Enthusiast

My brother is a diehard outdoorsman. Every weekend he goes on some expedition into the woods with minimal supplies, relying largely on his wits and cunning to provide him sustenance. For his birthday, I naturally wanted to get him something for the outdoors, but since he only uses the essential supplies, he already has everything that he needs.

I know that it is a departure from his minimalist camping nature, but after researching inflatable boats, I decided to buy him one. Never one to sugarcoat anything, he told me that he liked the gift but definitely wouldn’t take it with him every trip. That’s fine with me; maybe I’ll join him sometime for some modern camping and we can take the boat with us.

Man’s best friend on land or at sea

Dogs love one thing – to be with their family.  When that family plays on the water,  your dog will want to play there too.  Following everyone into the boat, your dog might climb in before you realize it or take some coaxing at first.  They sit up, turning nose in the air, scanning for scents, sniffing the air and listening to  the wind, water and birds.  They stare into the water and bark at fish, snap at bugs and generally entertain themselves and the family too.

For a nice afternoon trip there are some items to carry for  your furry friend.  If you are gone for more than an hour or two you’ll need water, plastic bowl, some snacks, leash; if you take on even gurgling faster water or travel a long distance from shore or negotiate challenging currents, it is a good idea to have a life vest on pets too.

Some of the easiest boats to transport and the stablest to use for family and furry friend are inflatable canoes.   Many inflatable canoes are really tandem kayaks that easily hold 500 lbs. or more.  A family of 5 – parents 2 children and 1 dog can easily be accommodated in 2 kayaks.  The tough, rugged materials , like K-80 polykrylar, will stand up to dogs jumping in or out from land or sea.

Short trips are best for getting everyone used to kayaking and the pace of the outdoors life.  New routines are exciting and everyone will be ready to eat heartily and turn in early, pup included, at the end of the day.
